Bright Leads ARDC Competitors in Tulsa
Alex Bright as been achieving milestone after milestone in recent months.
The young gun from Collegeville, PA added yet another accomplishment to his resume’ this weekend when he raced to a fourth place finish in the Chili Bowl in Tulsa, OK. The Chili Bowl is one of auto racing’s premier events, attracting nearly three hundred entries who compete throughout five days of qualifying for a spot in the Saturday night A Main for a chance to win the famed Golden Driller trophy.
By virtue of his third place finish in the A Main on his night of qualifying, Bright was one of twelve drivers who drew for their starting spots for Saturday night’s main event. Bright picked the twelvth spot that found him surrounded by the best of the best in Midget racing – names like Clauson, Swindell, Bell, Darland and Gardner.
At the wave of the green flag, Bright fell back a few spots, electing to run a conservative race in the early going. As the race wore on, Bright proceeded to make his way to the front. He was right on the heels of the race leaders when the checkered flag waved.
It was a great accomplishment for Bright who competes with equipment owned by his grandfather, Joe Hemler of Lightcap Electric. While many other teams race with equipment built and designed just for the Chili Bowl, Bright raced the same equipment that he used throughout the 2013 ARDC season where he captured three feature wins. Bright races an Elite chassis designed by Royersford, PA driver, Steve Buckwalter.
Bright was the winner of the Magic Man 34 in Australia in November. He returned to Australia to compete in the 2014 ENZED Australian Speedcar Championship where he came up just one spot short of another big win. Bright will return to Australia for several more races right after returning home from Tulsa.
“I know it’s not a win but this (the fourth in the Chili Bowl) is huge,” Bright explained later.
The American Racing Drivers’ Club (ARDC) was well represented during the 28th Annual Chili Bowl competition. Below are the results from Saturday’s competition, frequently referred to as Alphabet Soup.
