BRENDEN BRIGHT WINS AS KOBYLARZ IS CROWNED 2013 ARDC CHAMPION

BRIGHT IS THE STAR IN CANDY BOWL ARDC FEATURE Kobylarz is 2013 ARDC Champion
 Brenden Bright made sure that his third season in ARDC midget competition was not a winless one as he picked up his first win of the season in the final ARDC event of 2013.  The 2011 ARDC Rookie of the Year struggled with mechanical issues throughout much of the season and missed several races during the summer months.  Bright rejoined the schedule just three races ago, picking up a third and a win to close out the season. 
 
    Bright took the lead on lap thirteen from rookie, Jim Radney and then drove to the checkered flag seven laps later.
 
    A multi car incident in turn two was the cause of a  complete restart and Radney and Brett Arndt led the field to the green for the second attempt at lap number one.  After getting upside down, Tony DiMattia was unable to continue.  Jason Rice and Steve Craig were also casualties in this incident. 
 
    Radney took the lead on lap one as Arndt and Steven Drevicki battled it out for second.  Drevicki came up with the spot and then challenged Radney for the lead, becoming the race leader on the second circuit.  Drevicki led through lap five as Radney kept him in his sights from second.  Ryan Greth moved up to third ahead of Arndt while Bright moved into fifth on lap five.
 
    Radney raced back by Drevicki to take the lead on lap six.  The caution came out again on lap eight as Dave Shirk and Brian Gilmore came together between the first and second turns.  Radney held the advantage over Drevicki as Greth ran third.  Bright had now advanced to fourth with Kyle Lick rounding out the top five.
 
    Radney took the half way sign as the race leader as Bright moved up to third behind Drevicki.  Bright took over second on lap twelve and used the outside line to drive into the lead one lap later. 
 
    Bright was able to navigate his way through lapped traffic as he drove away from the competition.  Bright took the checkered flag followed by Radney, Drevicki, Greth and Alex Bright. 
 
    After missing his heat race due to mechanical issues, Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. started the feature from the scratch position and drove up to seventh to earn the Hyper Hard Charger Award.
 
    Trevor Kobylarz restarted at the rear of the field after the lap one incident in turn two but his 15th place finish was more than enough to secure his first ARDC Championship as a driver and the second consecutive Owner’s Championship for R/T Racing’s, Dyke and Carey Becker.

One Race Remains to Determine 2013 ARDC Champion

Current ARDC point leader, Trevor Kobylarz, had many reasons for wanting to pick up the win at the Thunder on the Hill – House of Thunder Show at the Grandview Speedway on Saturday.  He was looking to increase his lead in the point standings with just one race remaining in the 2013 ARDC season.  Kobylarz was also in search of his first career win at the Grandview Speedway – the track that Kobylarz like many of his fellow competitors, consider to be their home track.  And Trevor Kobylarz wanted to honor former Grandview late-model driver and ARDC member, Tom Herbert.  Herbert, who lived in the same neighborhood as Kobylarz, lost his battle with cancer just days before and was laid to rest on Saturday morning.  Herbert was known to Grandview Speedway fans as the Pink Panther but he had also served as an official and crew member in ARDC in the past. 

 
  
    In what was features only program, Kobylarz started eighth on the grid for the start of the twenty-five lap ARDC feature event.  PJ Gargiulo used the outside line to power by pole sitter, Jason Rice of Danielsville, PA  on the first lap to take the lead.  Kobylarz challenged Topton, PA driver, Brett Arndt for third on the fourth circuit as Gargiulo pulled away from the field.  Gargiulo led Rice, Kobylarz, Arndt and Ryan Greth with just five laps on the books.
 
    Kobylarz challenged Rice for the runner-up spot on the eighth lap and moved in to set his sights on Gargiulo.  As the leaders came to the line to score lap ten, Kobylarz edged Gargiulo for the lead. 
 
    Steve Buckwalter was making his way through the field after starting fifteenth at the green.  As Kobylarz extended his lead, Buckwalter moved into the top five by the half way point of the race.  On lap fourteen, Buckwalter challenged Ryan Greth for fourth.  Two laps later, Rice was in his sights as Buckwalter moved up to third.  With Kobylarz making his way through lapped traffic, Buckwalter moved in to take second from Gargiulo on lap eighteen. 
 
    Kobylarz had a straightaway lead on the field by the time Buckwalter made his way into second.  With just five laps to go, the caution was needed when Jimmy Glenn came to a stop in turn three and Kobylarz’s advantage was erased.  The field was realigned nose to tail with the 2010 ARDC Champion, Buckwalter right on the tail of Kobylarz’s R/T Racing #1. 
 
    Kobylarz got a good start and was able to keep his #1 ahead of Buckwalter all of the way to the checkered flag.  Kobylarz led Buckwalter, Gargiulo, Nick Wean and Ryan Greth to the finish for his fourth win of the season and first ever at Grandview.  After  starting eleventh on the grid, Wean drove into the top five just past the half way mark and battled with Gargiulo for the third spot in the closing laps.
 
    There was great racing throughout the pack throughout the entire feature event.  Rice was in the thick of many battles throughout as Brenden Bright, Pauch, Jr. Drevicki and Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. mixed it up right to the checkered flag.
 
    Billy Pauch Jr., starting from the 23rd spot, drove the Steward #33s up to an eighth place finish and earned the Hyper Hard Charger Award. 
 
    The 2013 ARDC season concludes this Saturday with the Candy Bowl at Susquehanna Speedway Park.

Thunder on the Hill to feature top 24 in points

 Just two races remain on the 2013 ARDC Midget schedule with the next race to take place at the Grandview Speedway’s Thunder on the Hill Show this Saturday night. 

 
    This features only event will showcase the top drivers in the current championship chase.  Trevor Kobylarz is the current point leader with a fifty point advantage over second place driver, Bruce Buckwalter, Jr.  Steven Drevicki is third and still within striking distance as he is 82 markers behind the leader.  Ryan Greth and PJ Gargiulo complete the top five in points with just two races remaining.
 
    Six drivers are currently competing for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Award to be presented at the ARDC Awards Banquet on November 30th.  For the second consecutive season, Bob Hilbert Sportswear will present 100 white express race shirts to the winner of this special points awards.  The results from both the Thunder on the Hill Show at Grandview and the Candy Bowl at the Susquehanna Speedway Park will be included in the point tabulation for this award.  Kobylarz, B. Buckwalter, Jr., Drevicki , Greth, Gargiulo and Brett Arndt are in the hunt for this contingency package. 
 
    Fans attending the Thunder on the Hill event will also have the opportunity to vote for the recipient of the 2013 ARDC Best Appearing Car Award sponsored by BDB Graphics.  Votes have already been cast for the #46 of Ardnt, the Gargiulo #5, R/T Racing #1, the Butera #3 and the #83 of B. Buckwalter, Jr.  Ballots will be made available to fans throughout the night so that they can participate in deciding this special award.
 
    Alex Bright, Tim Buckwalter and Brenden Bright have just returned from competition in the Gold Crown Nationals where all three ARDC competitors competed in the fifty lap main event on the final night of competition.  Alex Bright had a very successful weekend as he finished 7th and tenth in the A Mains during the first two nights of competition.  After winning the second B Main on the final night, Alex finished fifth in the main event.  Alex will participate in a Meet & Greet outside Grandview’s main entrance prior to the start of racing on Saturday night.

    The 2013 ARDC Season will conclude with the running of the Candy Bowl at Susquehanna on Saturday, October 26th.
 
    The 2013 Championship and special awards will be celebrated at the ARDC Awards Banquet to be held at Lobitz Catering on Saturday, November 30th.  Tickets are available for purchase for $30.
