In 1939 a racing visionary by the name of Bill Schindler saw the need for more organization in the sport of midget auto racing. Schindler, along with others formed the American Racing Drives Club or as they became more commonly known as ARDC.
On Friday, May 1st the Mighty Midgets of ARDC returns to the 3/8th mile Big Diamond Speedway. The high banked, multi groove surface of the Coal Region track has produced high speed side by side action for several years.
Lincoln Speedway is on the schedule for the following weekend, May 9th and will host a second race on July 18th.On May 9th the 410 Sprint Cars and the 358 Sprint Cars will also be on the card for the York County Racing Club night. July 18th the Midgets be will be joined by the 410 Sprint Cars and Super Sportsmen.
ARDC will return to Grandview Speedway, sandwiched between the Lincoln dates, along with the Modifieds and the Sportsmen on June 20th. The high banked 1/3 mile was the last Speedway in Pennsylvania to host the Midgets on a regular basis.
“We are beyond excited to get the wingless Midgets back on the local speedways to show fans our exciting brand of racing.” Organizer Shannon Mausteller said. “We currently have the four dates lined up for 2020, with hopefully more to come for 2021.”
“With a focus on sprint car and modified tracks expect to see one of the big car drivers strap into a Midget as Steve Buckwalter, did for the win, last May at Lincoln.”
“The driver roster is not set other than to say you can expect to see many of your favorite drivers testing their meddle.” Mausteller continued.
